From the Desk of Jon Weiss: Building a Culture of Safety Every Day

Observing National Construction Safety Week

Each year, National Construction Safety Week serves as an important reminder of what matters most on every job site: the health and safety of our people. At B2K, safety is not a once-a-year initiative. It is a daily commitment that shapes how we plan, build, and work together.

Safety Week 2026, taking place May 4 through May 8, gives us an opportunity to reinforce that commitment across all of our active work and teams.

From the Desk of Jon Weiss: Building a Culture of Safety Every Day from B2K ConstructionWhy We Participate in Safety Week

Our participation in Safety Week is rooted in accountability and leadership. Construction is an inherently complex and high-risk industry, and it is our responsibility to ensure that every individual who steps onto a B2K job site goes home safely at the end of the day.

Safety Week allows us to pause, refocus, and engage directly with our teams in a meaningful way. It is not just about meeting standards or compliance requirements. It is about strengthening a culture where safety is second nature and where every team member feels empowered to speak up, look out for one another, and take ownership of their environment.

Why Safety Week Matters to Every Employee

Safety is not limited to a single role or responsibility. It impacts everyone on site, from leadership and field supervisors to subcontractors and labor crews.

When safety is prioritized, it creates a more efficient and reliable work environment. It builds trust among teams, reduces risk, and supports stronger outcomes. More importantly, it reinforces the idea that every person’s well-being matters.

Safety Week is a chance to have open conversations, revisit best practices, and ensure that our standards remain strong and consistent across all job sites.

What a Safety Stand Down Means

As part of our Safety Week efforts, B2K is hosting three safety stand downs at active job sites in the Bronx, Island Park, and East Northport, led by experienced safety instructors.

A safety stand down is a dedicated pause in work where all on-site activities temporarily stop so teams can focus entirely on safety. During this time, crews gather to review protocols, discuss potential hazards, share experiences, and reinforce safe work practices.

These stand downs create space for dialogue and learning. They allow teams to address real-world scenarios, ask questions, and walk away with a clearer understanding of how to prevent incidents before they happen.

We conduct these stand downs each year because they are one of the most effective ways to bring safety to the forefront in a practical and engaging way.

Reinforcing Awareness Across Our Job Sites

In addition to our stand downs, we have placed Safety Week posters across all job sites to increase visibility and awareness. These serve as daily reminders of our shared commitment and help keep safety top of mind throughout the week and beyond.

A Commitment That Extends Beyond One Week

While Safety Week is a valuable moment of focus, our commitment does not begin or end here. At B2K, safety is embedded in every phase of our work, from pre-construction planning through completion.

We will continue to invest in training, reinforce best practices, and support our teams in maintaining the highest standards. Because at the end of the day, the success of any effort is measured not just by what we build, but by how we build it safely.
