Women in Construction Leadership: Spotlight on CFO Krishna Grego

During Women’s History Month, we take time to recognize the many contributions women make across industries, including construction, where their leadership continues to shape the future of the field.

At B2K Development, we’re proud to count our Chief Financial Officer, Krishna Grego, CPA, CCIFP among those leaders helping redefine what excellence looks like in our industry.

In a recent interview, Krishna shared her perspective on women in construction, the value of diverse leadership, and the responsibility leaders have to create opportunities for the next generation.

Women in Construction Leadership CFO Krishna Grego Spotlight 3

“You belong here.”

Krishna’s message to women considering careers in construction is clear and direct:

“You belong here. Your voice matters. Your expertise matters. And you could transform the industry.”

While construction has historically been male-dominated, women across the industry are increasingly stepping into leadership roles, bringing new perspectives that strengthen organizations and improve outcomes.

Krishna’s own career reflects that evolution. She began specializing in the construction sector nearly two decades ago, drawn to the unique nature of the industry itself.

“Bringing something to life from a piece of paper has always fascinated me. Seeing the difference between construction drawings and what is ultimately built still surprises me.”

Her entry into the industry began in 2004 while working in public accounting, where she analyzed numerous construction clients across both the public and private sectors.

“My specialty has always focused on construction financials, project profitability, and tax structure.”

Through that work, Krishna developed a deep understanding of the financial and operational forces that shape successful builds.

Redefining Operational Excellence

Over more than two decades in the industry, Krishna has seen firsthand how women are helping reshape the culture and performance of construction organizations.

“Over my 25 years, I’ve seen that women in construction aren’t just contributing to the industry. We’re redefining what operational excellence is and the financial discipline we bring to the table.”

She notes that the strength of any organization lies in the diversity of perspectives in leadership roles.

“This industry thrives on the diverse perspectives that individuals bring. Women bring different levels of sophistication, complexity, and collaboration that strengthen outcomes, improve performance, and elevate the culture of the company. When that happens, the entire industry rises.”

Krishna’s perspective is shaped by a career that spans multiple facets of the construction and development world. Early in her career, she worked across manufacturing and public accounting before ultimately focusing on the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industries.

“I spent nearly ten years in public accounting focusing exclusively on construction, architecture, engineering, and manufacturing. I was fortunate to work across consulting, audit accounting, and tax, which allowed me to see the full picture.”

Opening Doors for the Next Generation

For Krishna, leadership is about more than professional success. It’s about creating opportunities for others to grow.

“The acheivements I’m most proud of are helping open doors for emerging leaders, mentoring the next generation, and restructuring benefits packages to attract stronger talent. “

Creating environments where women can step confidently into leadership roles is a priority she believes benefits the entire organization.

“It’s important to create environments where women can step into senior roles, develop the confidence to stay in those roles long-term, and grow with the organization.”

Part of that work involves encouraging people to challenge themselves and continue building their skills.

“It’s important to keep challenging yourself every day and persevere to accomplish your goals. Growth doesn’t happen unless you’re willing to push yourself and keep learning.”

For Krishna, leadership also means mentoring emerging professionals and helping organizations evolve in ways that attract and retain strong talent. From rethinking benefits structures to supporting professional development, she believes intentional leadership can open doors for the next generation of industry leaders.

Building Pathways for Talent to Thrive

Krishna emphasizes that supporting employees, regardless of background, requires intentionality.

“Any time you have an employee, whether it’s a woman or another diverse member of the team, it’s important to give them the resources and training they need to develop and mature in their role.”

That commitment to growth, she explains, is ultimately what strengthens companies and the industry as a whole.

“As leaders, it’s our responsibility to create pathways for people to succeed, to champion the talent they bring to the table and build organizations where women can grow, thrive, and lead.”

Throughout her career, Krishna has worked with many different teams and within many different environments, particularly during her years in public accounting where every engagement brought new collaborators and challenges.

“Working across so many teams teaches you to adapt. You learn to identify people’s strengths and find the best ways for them to contribute.”

Krishna also emphasizes the importance of consistent communication and feedback.

“Evaluation should be something that happens once or twice a year. It should be a continuous feedback loop that helps people grow in their roles and feel supported in their development.”

Celebrating Women Who Shape the Industry

Women like Krishna Grego continue to help move the construction industry forward, through leadership, mentorship, and a commitment to building stronger organizations.

Today Krishna serves as Chief Financial Officer of B2K Development and recently expanded her role to also serve as CFO of B2k Construction, reflecting her deep alignment with the company’s mission and its growing portfolio.

What continues to inspire her most about the industry is seeing developments evolve from concept to reality.

“Construction and real estate are unique because they still require a tangible process. You see something go from a concept or a budget to a completed structure that people use every day.”

Whether it is residential communities, commercial developments, or large-scale projects that shape local economies, Krishna sees the work as deeply meaningful.

“Along the way, we’re creating jobs, contributing to local communities, and building spaces that will be used for years to come. It’s an incredible feeling to see that happen.”

Looking ahead, she believes the growing presence of women in construction will continue to strengthen the industry.

“Twenty years ago, this field was overwhelmingly male-dominated. Today, we’re seeing more women at the table, and the results coming out of those teams are incredible.”

Her hope for the future is clear.

“Twenty years from now, I hope we can see even more balanced teams across the industry, and it’s up to leaders today to help make that happen.”

At B2K Development, we are proud to support leaders who are helping create a future where talent, expertise, and opportunity define success.
